3 police personnel suspended for projecting murder as ‘suicide’

Three police personnel, including a circle-inspector, a sub-inspector, and a constable of Tirupati police district, were arrested and sent for remand, besides facing suspension, on charges of projecting a murder case as a “suicide”.

According to information, a woman, whose husband was allegedly murdered, had met Superintendent of Police (Tirupati) Ch. Venkatappala Naidu during the “Spandana” weekly programme on March 21 and complained that the circle inspector (Renigunta Rural) Amarnath Reddy, sub-inspector (Ramachandrapuram) Chiranjeevi, and constable Shobanadri had allegedly manipulated the recent murder of husband, and were trying to project it as a “suicide”.

She had also submitted some “shreds of evidence” to support her charges against the police personnel.

On receiving the complaint, the SP placed the three officials under vacancy reserve (VR) and conducted a departmental inquiry, which reportedly exposed the connivance of the three officials with the accused in the murder case. Following this, the Ramachandrapuram police arrested the three police personnel, and sent them for remand a couple of days ago.

On Monday, responding to the SP’s petition against the arrested personnel, the DIG (Anantapur) issued orders suspending the trio.

Speaking to the media, the Tirupati SP confirmed the episode and said that betrayal, corruption, and disloyalty in the department would not be tolerated, and the erring personnel would be taken to task. He urged the people to boldly approach the higher officials in case they faced any bias or injustice from the investigating personnel.
