If you’re still feeling the holiday hangover and want to spend a lazy weekend enjoying some great movies on Prime Video, the streaming service has plenty of recent additions worth considering.
The Amazon-owned platform is always adding movies to its library, and I’ve combed through its January 2026 slate to pick out a trio of movies that deserve your attention. These range from the fourth installment in a popular animated franchise, a brilliant biopic that explores one of the most influential music groups in history, and an uber-charming rom-com flick starring Ryan Reynolds.
These are the new to Prime Video movies I’m adding to my personal watchlist, and if you need a little viewing inspiration, here’s why I think you should stream them as well.
‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ (2024)
The latest installment in the charming ‘Kung Fu Panda’ franchise arrives on Prime Video this weekend, and it’s another enjoyable adventure with butt-kicking panda Po (voiced by Jack Black). This action-comedy is a great choice for all ages, thanks to its excellent animation, a recognizable voice cast (including Viola Davis, Dustin Hoffman, Bryan Cranston, and more), and well-tuned comedy. The series may no longer feel as fresh as it once did, but it’s still supremely fun.
Ready to advance to the role of spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace, martial arts master Po must choose his successor as the Dragon Warrior. However, a new danger lurks in the shadows when a shape-shifter known as The Chameleon (Davis) sets their eyes on the mythic Staff of Wisdom. To defeat this new threat to the Valley, Po must team up with a tricky Fox, named Zhen (Awkwafina). “Kung Fu Panda 4” is another big-hearted action-comedy.

‘Straight Outta Compton’ (2015)
I’ve been on a real biopic kick recently, so it’s certainly welcome news to see one of the finest efforts in the genre of the 2010s added to Prime Video this month. “Straight Outta Compton” chronicles the groundbreaking rap group N.W.A. This insight into the quintet is engaging, triumphant, occasionally heartbreaking and particularly inspiring. I'm not even a regular hip-hop listener (indie rock is more my speed), but I still found this biopic electric, and I’m looking forward to rewatching it on Prime Video.
Opening in the 1980s, Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson Jr.), Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins), Easy-E (Jason Mitchell), DJ Yella (Neil Brown Jr.) and MC Ren (Aldis Hodge) change the rap game when they form the group N.W.A. Their music pulls no punches, and their first album, “Straight Outta Compton,” puts them on the map, and then some. But as their popularity grows, fame, fortune, and legacy put a heavy burden on the band and on their friendships.

‘Definitely, Maybe’ (2008)
This weekend sees the arrival of Netflix’s new glossy rom-com “People We Meet on Vacation.” Let’s just say I wasn’t a fan of the big red streaming service’s latest original movie. However, if you’re looking for an easy-watching crowd-pleaser with a likeable cast of characters, some gentle humor, and a romance to get invested in, Prime Video recently added “Definitely, Maybe,” and I’d strongly recommend it as a much better alternative.
Ryan Reynolds plays Will Hayes, an advertising agent in New York. Currently going through a divorce, his young daughter (Abigail Breslin) demands to hear the story of how her parents met. Will reluctantly agrees and begins recounting his love life, but adds a twist, he refuses to confirm which of the three women in his life (Isla Fisher, Elizabeth Banks and Rachel Weisz) ultimately became his wife. “Definitely, Maybe” stands out in the crowded rom-com crowd thanks to its mystery, and Reynolds is as charismatic as ever.
