Prime Video is always one of the first streaming services on my list when I’m looking for movies to watch over the weekend. The Amazon-owned platform might not offer the strongest stable of originals, but its vast library is packed with great movies all the same.
At the start of the month, Prime Video added more than 60 movies to its catalog, and I’m still working my way through the highlights. So, if you need a little streaming inspiration this weekend, I’ve rounded up the three movies that are top of my watchlist. These include a gritty action-thriller with 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and a classic Adam Sandler comedy.
These are the three recent arrivals on Prime Video I recommend you watch this weekend.
‘Sisu’ (2023)
If you enjoy the “John Wick” franchise, then you’re going to love “Sisu.” The 2023 movie offers a simple revenge tale, but the story is merely a vehicle to showcase gleefully violent action. If you’re looking for non-stop carnage, “Sisu” is sure to delight. But it’s no cheap and tacky bloodsplattered ride; there’s an appreciable amount of cinematic craft in the chaos.
Set in the dying embers of World War II, Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tommila) is a gold prospector living a humble life in the wilderness of northern Finland. After discovering a sizeable deposit of the precious resource, he crosses paths with a group of German soldiers, who mistake him for an easy target, and steal his gold. But they have no idea who they just robbed, and Aatmai is more than a simple miner. He’s a one-man army, out of bloody revenge.

‘Searching’ (2018)
The narrative fundamentals of “Searching” are fairly pedestrian. The mystery thriller centers on a desperate father, played by John Cho, who attempts to locate his missing daughter, Margot (Michelle La), and unearths a larger mystery along the way. It’s not exactly an original idea for a thriller. But what does set “Searching” apart is how its story is framed.
The movie is part of the “Screenlife” genre, which means the entire movie is presented as a recording of a computer screen. Viewers watch as John Cho’s David Kim scrolls through his daughter’s social media accounts and CCTV footage looking for clues, and in-person character interactions are swapped for frantic video calls. It’s a novel filmmaking style, and it helps make “Searching” significantly more immersive and engaging.

‘Click’ (2006)
I’m not usually one to recommend an Adam Sandler comedy. Let’s just say his potty humor isn’t to my taste. However, 20 years later, “Click” is one of Sandler's comedies that has stood the test of time. Yes, there are some childish gags, but there’s also a surprising amount of hard-hitting drama. The movie has become something of a meme online, but it shouldn’t be dismissed. It offers a strong message about not wasting your life.
Michael Newman (Sandler) is an architect and family man with a serious problem finding a suitable work-life balance. Gifted a literal universal remote, he’s suddenly able to fast-forward through the boring bits of life, and even rewind when he wants a second chance at a tricky situation. However, the remote has a mind of its own, and when it begins making decisions for Michael, he realizes it might not be a gift, but a curse.
