Two years ago, the Chicago Bulls pushed their chips on the table, trading for Nikola Vucevic. With the deal, they committed to a new-look squad that had one goal – to make the playoffs. They were done rebuilding, and since then, they broke their four-year postseason drought but took a step back this past season, getting bounced in the Play-In Tournament.
Now, Arturas Karnisovas is intent on keeping the same core together, but if that’s his plan, he needs to add pieces to the team. Zach LaVine is the head of the snake in Chicago, and while DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic are important pieces, Karnisovas should make moves to help LaVine.
With all that in mind, here are three free agents the Bulls could sign this summer who would complement LaVine.
Chicago Bulls free agents targets to complement Zach LaVine: Josh Richardson
LaVine is a great scorer, but he’s not the best defender, and he draws lots of attention on offense. Adding Josh Richardson to the mix would give Chicago someone who could help cover LaVine on the defensive end and hit open three-point shots. Plus, his ball-handling and underrated playmaking abilities would help take some pressure off of LaVine, too.
Chicago Bulls free agents targets to complement Zach LaVine: Jevon Carter
Similar to Richardson, Jevon Carter’s primary jobs would be to play defense and make his open threes. By doing both of those things at a very high level, he would be a great point guard next to LaVine.
Chicago Bulls free agents targets to complement Zach LaVine: Mason Plumlee
Mason Plumlee may not be the most flashy name on the market, but next to LaVine and the rest of Chicago’s core, he could be great. Not only would Plumlee help the Bulls on the glass, but his underrated playmaking ability at the five could help give LaVine and DeRozan a nice boost, too.
