NEW DELHI: The three municipal corporations of Delhi are all gearing up to carry out demolition drives in their areas next week. The enthusiasm follows Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta writing to the mayors on identifying and bulldozing illegal encroachments under their jurisdiction. The issue has a touch of controversy to it, coming as it does just a few days from the anti-encroachment exercise in riot-hit Jahangirpuri.
“We held meetings with the officials in different departments. The complaints of encroachments were assessed and areas that need attention have been identified,” Shyam Sunder Aggarwal, mayor, East Delhi Municipal Corporation. “Currently our officials are making announcements in the various areas so the people there get time to remove the encroachments.”
