The Chicago Bulls preseason has come to a close, and unfortunately, it didn’t quite go according to plan. Chicago went 1-4 in their five games, with their only victory being a double-overtime win over the reigning NBA Champion Denver Nuggets. Needless to say, the Bulls will have wanted to play a bit better throughout the preseason.
At the same time, however, the preseason isn’t as much about wins and losses as it is about player development. The Bulls got a good look at all of their players, which should help them iron out minutes and lineups as the season gets underway.
Let’s take a look at three of the biggest Bulls storylines heading into the regular season.
1. Coby White's continued develpoment
When the preseason began, it seemed as though there would be some tough competition for the starting point guard spot between Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, and newcomer Jevon Carter.
However, White separated himself a bit during the preseason, and he should be the starter on Opening Night. His development will be key to Chicago’s success this season.
2. Andre Drummond's rebounding
This may seem a bit silly, but Andre Drummond led the NBA in rebounding during the preseason, hauling in 11.3 boards per game, including 5.0 on the offensive end.
If the Bulls can dominate the glass and be one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the league, an area where they were awful last year, their overall offense will benefit.
3. Power forward battle
Patrick Williams should be the favorite to start at power forward, but concerns in regard to his effort and rebounding late in the preseason caused some questions, with head coach Billy Donovan even benching him at one point.
Torrey Craig is a solid veteran who is perfectly capable of starting, so if Williams slips up at all, he’ll be right there. The battle for the starting power forward spot may be the most intriguing position battle on the roster.
