3 best new to Netflix shows you should binge-watch this weekend (June 5-7)

Netflix logo on a green background.

One of the best streaming services around, Netflix always makes sure to keep its streaming library fresh and engaging by filtering in brand-new titles every week. However, the rapidity of that revolving door means that it can be hard to keep up with all of those new releases — and that's where Tom's Guide comes in.

Each week, we take a perusal of what's arriving on the platform and put together a curated list of watchlist-worthy releases that we think you should have on your radar. Right now, that includes a buzzy docuseries centered on Michael Jackson's legal drama, but two shows from abroad — England and South Korea, to be exact — are making their global debut.

So, if your weekend plans involve little more than couch potato-ing in front of the TV, here are the three shows you should be catching up with this weekend.

Best new-to-Netflix shows to binge-watch this weekend

'Michael Jackson: The Verdict'

Michael Jackson's life story has very much been back in the spotlight what with the recent release of the music biopic "Michael," but that renewed attention on the late pop icon has also brought his less-than-savory legacy to the forefront.

The performer's decades-long legal battles, centered around numerous sexual assault allegations involving minors, serves as the subject of the three-part Netflix Original docuseries "Michael Jackson: The Verdict," which draws on archival footage, trial notes, on-the-ground media coverage and exclusive testimonies from key individuals who were inside the courtroom—including jurors, eyewitnesses and the singer's alleged victims—to deeply dissect the infamous 2005 child-molestation case against Jackson.

'Teach You a Lesson'

This action-packed new K-drama makes getting sent to the principal's office seem like a cakewalk. Set in an alternate reality where school bullying has hit dangerous heights, "Teach You a Lesson" stars Kim Moo-yul, Lee Sung-min, Jin Ki-joo and Pyo Ji-hoon as members of the Teachers’ Rights Protection Bureau, a fictional government-authorized task force created to protect victims and restore order in troublesome schools whenever violent students, overworked teachers and even overbearing parents start wreaking havoc in the classroom.

To restore order to these broken institutions, the highly trained officials utilize some unconventional methods definitely not found in textbooks, including hand-to-hand fights, high-speed car chases and rule-breaking problem solving. Hong Jong-chan ("Juvenile Justice" is in the director's chair, with scripts written by Lee Nam-kyu ("Daily Dose of Sunshine").

'The Witness'

True crime fans will no doubt be titillated by "The Witness," a new three-part Netflix miniseries based on the real-life murder of Rachel Nickell on Wimbledon Common in southwest London in July 1992. Nickell's two-year-old son Alex Hanscombe was the only eyewitness to his mother's attack; both Hanscombe and his father André served as consultants on the drama series, which gives an unvarnished look at the family's struggles through the profound grief, ruthless media attention and catastrophic police investigation following the horrific tragedy.

Created, written, and executive produced by Rob Williams and directed by Alex Winckler, the heartbreaking series stars Jordan Bolger as the elder Hanscombe, with actors Max Fincham and Jahsaiah Williams playing teenaged and younger Alex, respectively.
