2FM boss Dan Healy has admitted he didn’t think Carl Mullan would be any good as a radio presenter.
The 2FM Breakfast presenter first met Dan back in 2013 and the station boss admitted thinking the Dancing With The Stars contestant wouldn’t last at 2FM.
Reacting to 2FM Breakfast’s 5,000 extra listeners today in the latest JNLRs, Dan said: “Carl is having his time. He’s clever, clever, clever and he’s a lovely fella.

“Someone was saying that I’ll claim Carl Mullan’s success. Will I hell? I remember in 2013 saying to Carl he was never going to make it on radio. I didn’t think he would.
“What Carl has done in the last two or three years is remarkable. Carl has created Carl. Everything Carl gets, he deserves. Hard worker, decent guy and it just shows you if you believe in yourself – even if people like me don’t – at some point….
“Then I go ‘Christ look at what he’s doing’.
“I met Carl in 2013. When we rang Carl to tell him that he got the breakfast show, there was proper emotions here. We were so happy for him.
“Four years ago, a very close friend of his called Alan McQuillan (2FM DJ) died. Alan and Carl were very tight. If Alan had known four years ago that Carl Mullan was going on Dancing with the Stars, I think Alan would’ve died that day.
“What’s happened to Carl is absolutely glorious and everybody is so happy for them,” he added.
Carl previously told how Dancing With The Stars is just as terrifying as the JNLRs to him and his co-hosts Doireann Garrihy and Donncha O'Callaghan.
He told us: "They are both terrifying. Of course. The JNLRs - that is a huge part of the business. I suppose we’ve been lucky that in the last year, they’ve been going well. At the end of the day you have to pay attention to them.
“For us it is about if they don’t go in the right direction, right what do we need to work on and that has happened to us on the breakfast show where the numbers wouldn’t be going in the right direction. You just take a step back as a team and go right, what is not working, what can we do better."
But Carl admitted that he knows the time will come when 2FM Breakfast ends.
“And look, it’ll happen. Like one day we’ll be told we’re finished but for me whenever that day comes, I’ll know but we put everything into it.”
