- Danny Boyle has insisted that a second sequel to 28 Years Later “will get made” – and Cillian Murphy will play a starring role.
- The film, the third installment in the 28 Days Later series, was released in June 2025, with a sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, released in January 2026.
- Variety reported that Boyle, speaking at the Zurich Film Festival, said that “ 28 Years 3 , or whatever it ends up being called, will get made because people keep asking about it”, and added that Alex Garland had written “a very good script”.
- “[It will have] a lot of Cillian Murphy in it. Whether he’ll take his kit off anymore, that I don’t know. He’s got the Oscar now,” he said, alluding to Murphy’s shirtless scenes in the first installment in the series.
- The series depicts the outbreak of the deadly “Rage” virus, a contagious disease which causes widespread societal collapse.
