24 Hours in A&E Nottingham: Fans 'shocked and terrified' over suspected needle spiking

Fans of 24 Hours in A&E Nottingham were disgusted as the show focused on a wave of suspected needle spiking attacks in the city. The Channel 4 show, which aired on Tuesday (January 31) at 9pm, followed three female university students who were all suspected victims as they sought treatment at the city's Queen's Medical Centre.

The episode was filmed in October 2021, when a surge of needle spikings were reported across the UK, resulting in an urgent report being ordered by the Home Secretary. Nottingham was at the epicentre, with 146 reports being made in two months.

Kate, one of the three students, all of whom study in Nottingham, was rushed to resus after collapsing outside a nightclub. The 20-year-old stopped breathing normally and received CPR from a friend.

Nurse Sarah, who treats Kate, also reveals her own experience of having her drink spiked when she was a student. Students Sarah and Pavni also meet in the urgent treatment department after attending due to concerns over being spiked with needles on a night out.

Fans on Twitter were left asking "who would do that to someone" as they watched on "terrified" on Tuesday night. @NUHCharity tweeted: "Poor Kate, how scared she must have felt waking up in hospital. Luckily the great team at @nottmhospitals Emergency Department will help her feel safe and secure."

@dnbentley raged: "There really are some nasty, horrible people out there. Why the f*** would you do that to someone else." @pikstube said: "This is scary! People who do this injecting people are sick b******s."

@PipH3006 wrote: "So now it doesn’t matter how much you protect your drink when they have ways to get the drugs into your blood stream much quicker! Shocking and terrifying."
