24 Hours in A&E doctor recalls treatment of 'lovely' woman who came off motorbike

A Nottingham doctor has recalled caring for a 'standout' woman who fell off her motorbike which is set to appear in 24 Hours in A&E. Queen's Medical Centre major trauma doctor Amanjeet Dahaley, known as Jeet, appears in the latest episode of the Channel 4 series, set to air tonight (Tuesday, January 24).

During the show, Jeet helps care for 20-year-old Peta who was knocked unconscious after coming off her motorbike. The episode also hears from her mum, Nikki, who talks about the struggles she went through raising a child who was eventually diagnosed with Asperger's and ADHD.

"She is one of a great number of patients we see in major trauma who was involved in a road traffic collision," recalled Jeet, who is originally from Warwickshire. "We probably get around 10 similar cases that will come in a week. A lot of those are involving motorbikes.

However, he said Peta stood out both because of her gender and because she was "lovely". He continued: "It did stand out that she was female, I'll be honest. The vast majority of patients we see that have had an accident on a motorbike are male. Another thing that stood out was that her and her mum were lovely.

Amanjeet Dahaley appears in the fourth episode (The Garden TV/ Channel 4)

"We were concerned about her upper body, we thought she had a head injury, but she also had ADHD and Asperger's. It's not uncommon to have another important aspect of a patient and you have to just consider it in what you're doing.

"She was a bit concussed so that was a particular concern. Head injuries can be very severe and it's difficult as there's only so many things you can do for a head injury."

24 Hours in A&E airs on Channel 4 at 9pm on Tuesday.
