24 cases of election code violation booked in Chennai

CHENNAI: Chennai city police have booked 24 cases of violations of election norms against all political parties, and the officials have removed more than 31,000 wall posters and hoardings in the city.

The election control room set up at the city police commissioner’s office collected the details of the election related cases and violations of the model code of conduct. After compiling the data, it was sent to the Chennai corporation, which is the nodal agency to conduct the local body elections.

The police have been asked to register separate cases for the violations of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and violation of Tamil Nadu Open Places Disfigurement Act for advertising without getting permission from the respective individuals and agency.

The police have booked cases of MCC violations against various political parties, including DMK, AIADMK, BJP, VCK, and others, apart from independent candidates.
