Early Sunday morning, a tragic incident unfolded outside a large house party in Dallas, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old woman and injuries to eight others. The Dallas Police Department suspects the shooting to be gang-related.
The events transpired when officers responded to reports of gunfire on Collins Avenue at approximately 11:10 p.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, they discovered a large crowd that had spilled onto the street from a nearby party. Fortunately, no one had been injured at that point, and the officers remained in the vicinity to monitor the situation.
However, around 1:35 a.m., gunshots rang out once again, this time striking nine individuals in the crowd, which consisted of approximately 45 to 50 people. Emergency services swiftly attended to the victims, with seven women and two men being transported to local hospitals for treatment. Tragically, one of the female victims, identified as 21-year-old Coriesha Bradford, succumbed to her injuries.
While the other eight victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were expected to recover, the police launched a preliminary investigation into the incident. It was determined that the shooting began with one individual firing into the crowd, followed by others discharging their weapons.
Detectives are exploring the possibility of gang involvement in the shooting, although specific details have not been disclosed. Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia has initiated an internal inquiry to assess the department's response to the initial call. Despite the officers not witnessing any criminal activity among the crowd initially, the situation escalated tragically.
Garcia emphasized the ongoing efforts of the homicide detectives to identify the perpetrators and unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
