2025 Oscars Submissions Now Open For Various Categories And Dates

Submissions open for 2025 Oscars in multiple categories.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially opened the submissions for consideration for the 2025 Oscars. The Academy is currently accepting entries in various categories including general entries (such as best picture), animated features, animated shorts, documentary features, documentary shorts, international features, live action shorts, original scores, and original songs.

Submissions have different due dates ranging from Aug. 15 to Nov. 14, depending on the category and the qualifying run date of the submission. General entries, animated features, documentary features, and short films have two separate due dates, one for submissions that qualified before July 1 and another for those that qualified on or after that date.

The 97th Oscars ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Some early contenders for the upcoming Oscars include films like spring indie Challengers, summer blockbuster Inside Out 2, Cannes standouts Anora, Emilia Pérez, and The Substance, as well as the drama Sing Sing which opens in theaters today.

Looking back at the 2024 Oscars, the film Oppenheimer was named best picture and received six other awards, including best director for Christopher Nolan, best actor for Cillian Murphy, and best supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr. Emma Stone won the best actress award for her role in Poor Things, while Da'Vine Joy Randolph took home the best supporting actress award for The Holdovers.
