The Houston Texans didn’t place any tenders on their four restricted free agents as the 2024 league year officially kicked off on Wednesday. Three of the four will hit the open market, while the Texans re-signed one.
Safety Grayland Arnold, offensive tackle D.J. Scaife and wide receiver/return specialist Steven Sims Jr. are now free agents, according to KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson. The fourth player — defensive tackle Khalil Davis — agreed to sign a one-year deal to return to the Texans.
Arnold, 25, played the past three years with Houston. While he mostly saw times on special teams, Arnold split time between defense and special teams in eight games for Houston in 2023. He played 143 defensive snaps and 132 special team snaps. Arnold tallied 18 combined tackles, one tackles for a loss and one fumble recovery.
Scaife didn’t see any action in 2023 after he landed on injured reserve before the season.
Sims Jr. spent most of the season on the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on Jan. 16 and returned a 67-yard punt for a touchdown in the Texans’ divisional round loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Davis, meanwhile, should be a depth defensive tackle four Houston after the Texans traded Maliek Collins to the San Francisco 49ers for a seventh-round pick.
