The Arizona Cardinals are among the worst teams in the NFL this season at 1-7 and this isn’t just because the team is minus starting quarterback Kyler Murray. This roster has significant holes on both sides of the football but making a decision about the quarterback is the top priority heading into the 2024 NFL draft.
Here are our updated 2024 NFL draft needs at the midway point of the season.
1 - Quarterback
If the Cardinals can find a way to get out from under Kyler Murray’s contract, Arizona must draft his replacement. This quarterback class is very deep so that isn’t to say they have to draft a quarterback in the first round because there will be excellent talent in the second as well.
2 - Wide receiver
If you are going to get a new franchise quarterback, you have to get him a franchise pass catcher as well. Wide receiver is another very talented group but not as deep as quarterback.
3 - Interior offensive line
The Cardinals could stand to upgrade both guard and center but unfortunately, there haven’t been any college interior offensive linemen who have really emerged as a day one pick.
4 - Edge rusher
This could be more of an outside linebacker as a pure pass rusher or a 3-4 defensive end who can rush off the edge but in terms of the draft, we like the outside linebackers in this class more than down linemen.
5 - Running back
We love the James Conner story but it is time for Arizona to start looking for a player to pair up with him and eventually take over the starting job. There isn’t a first-round back in this draft yet but a couple of guys are close. The Cardinals should be able to wait until day three to find a pick here.
