2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic odds, course history and picks to win

After a week in New England, the PGA Tour heads to the Motor City for the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club.

Despite its tricky place in the Tour’s schedule, the RMC is hosting one of its best fields ever as defending champion Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, Justin Thomas and Tom Kim are all set to tee it up Thursday.

After missing the cut at the Memorial and U.S. Open, Thomas found some form at the Travelers Championship, tying for ninth. Fowler continued his run of good play in Connecticut, finishing T-13. Finau tied for 45th last week while Homa missed the cut.

Finau is the betting favorite at +1200, followed by Fowler and Morikawa at +1400 and Hideki Matsuyama at +1600.

Matsuyama has been the model of consistency over the last few months, tying for 23rd at the AT&T Byron Nelson, for 29th at the PGA Championship,  for 16th at the Memorial, for 32nd at the U.S. Open and for 13th at the Travelers.

The eight-time Tour winner withdrew from this event in 2021, but finished  21st in 2020 and 13th in 2019.

Tom Kim (20/1)

Kim was on our list last week and tied for 38th at the Travelers Championship. Not exactly the start we were looking for, but this week Kim returns to a course he’s had success at in the past. The 21-year-old finished seventh at Detroit Golf Club in 2022.

Before his trip to Connecticut, Kim tied for eighth at the U.S. Open.

Austin Eckroat (50/1)

Eckroat has made one start at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, an MC in 2021.

But he’s been playing high-level golf over the past month-and-a-half: T-2 (AT&T Byron Nelson), T-16 (Charles Schwab Challenge), T-30 (Memorial), T-10 (U.S. Open) and T-24 (Travelers Championship).
