The Minnesota Vikings have a lot of interesting questions that they need to answer and edge rusher is one of those. Releasing or trading Za’Darius Smith could save the Vikings over $13 million on the salary cap and it seems somewhat likely that it might happen.
If they do that, the Vikings will need to add to their edge room and that’s exactly what CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso did. In his latest mock draft, Trapasso sent Clemson edge rusher Myles Murphy to Minnesota with the 23rd overall pick.
Here is what Trapasso had to say about Murphy.
“Murphy has an NFL body and stars against the run. He can learn the intricacies of rushing the passer from Za’Darius Smith and Danielle Hunter early in his NFL career.”
Trapasso opines that Murphy could learn from both Smith and Danielle Hunter but I don’t think the Vikings would take an edge rusher unless they moved on from one or both due to what the Vikings needs are currently. Either way, Murphy is an excellent pass rusher with what some have described as a Travon Walker-like upside.
