As if they needed it, the 49ers and their league-best defense just got quite a bit tougher up front.
According to Adam Schefter at ESPN, the Niners are signing former Eagles defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to a four-year, $84 million deal.

Hargrave adds yet another double-digit sack threat to the loaded 49ers front seven. Last season Hargrave posted a career high 11 sacks to go with 16 quarterback hits and 18 pressures. In the end Hargrave earned the third-highest pass rush grade from PFF (91.1) at his position.
It may seem like overkill for San Francisco to reinforce their defensive line when it’s already so lethal. However, this is how teams build truly dominant units that can carry them deep into the playoffs. The Niners have made the NFC Championship game three of the last four years and their ability to get pressure on the quarterback has been a big part of that success.
