The Indianapolis Colts selected Kansas State CB Julius Brents with the No. 44 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
After trading back twice and adding two extra Day 3 picks since the start of the second round, the Colts finally stayed put and made a selection at a major position of need.
A local product from Warren Central High School, Brents is a perfect fit for Gus Bradley’s defense.
A two-year starter at Kansas State after spending three years at Iowa, Brents has great size and impeccable length to go along with elite explosiveness and short-area quickness. He lacks long speed, is a late bloomer and is an older prospect.
However, he showed improving ball skills and is a natural fit for a zone-heavy scheme with upside as a press-man corner. His athleticism is off the charts.
At the NFL combine, Brents measured in at 6-foot-2 and 198 pounds while posting elite numbers in the vertical jump (41.5 inches), broad jump (11-feet-6-inches) and three-cone drill (6.63).
During his two seasons at Kansas State (27 games), Brents receorded 11 passes defended and five interceptions.
