The Indianapolis Colts selected Northwestern defensive tackle Adetomiwa Adebawore with the No. 110 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
Using the pick they received in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons on Day 2, the Colts continue their trend of grabbing freaky athletes with immense upside.
Despite being project by most analysts as a Day 2 pick, Adebawore slid on the boards for an unknown reason. The Colts took advantage of it and were able to grab one of the most impressive athletes in the entire draft.
At 6-foot-1 and 282 pounds, Adebawore measured in with 33 7/8-inch arms while posting a 4.49 in the 40-yard dash along with a 37.5-inch vertical and 10-foot-5-inch broad jump.
To put that 40-yard dash time into perspective, Adebawore posted the same time as wide receivers Jordan Addison (4.49) and fellow Colts rookie Josh Downs (4.48) despite being over 100 pounds heavier.
A four-year senior and three-year starter, Adebawore was a team captain in 2022 for Northwestern. He’s a bit of a tweener when it comes to his position. He played mostly on the edge at Northwestern, but he also has experience kicking inside to three-technique.
The traits are what make him appealing. When it comes to his pass-rushing plan, he’s pretty raw. He needs to further develop his counters and plan as a rusher.
The upside is through the roof as a three-technique defensive tackle, but there will be a road of development ahead.
