Despite their current cap situation, the Chargers managed to retain both of their top wide receivers, which has severely limited their ability to add talent in free agency. Nonetheless, it seems that the team is turning its attention to the future at the position after it was reported that they met with USC receiver Jordan Addison.
Addison is considered one of the top pass-catching prospects in the 2023 draft class and is a former Biletnikoff Award winner at the collegiate level. His sleight six-foot 175-pound build will benefit from training in an NFL weight room, but his speed, explosiveness, and sure hands are sure to be enticing to any team seeking to upgrade their receiving corps.
While there is a high degree of uncertainty surrounding where he might be selected, Los Angeles would consider themselves lucky if Addison falls to them at the 21st overall pick. His pedigree, accolades, and production will likely warrant a selection in the top-15 to 20 range, though, at this point in the process, it is too early to tell which teams will prove to be suitors for his services.
One thing is sure, though; quarterback Justin Herbert will need top talent around him if the Chargers intend to compete for a Super Bowl title in 2023, and with most of the top receivers on the free agency market already accounted for, Addison could prove to be Los Angeles’ best bet.
