200 empty Lanarkshire tower block flats to house Ukrainian refugees 'in six weeks'

Lanarkshire tower blocks are set to house Ukrainian refugees.

Highcoats in Coatbridge and Birskshaw in Wishaw have both been earmarked for the project costing the Scottish Government £5 million. A total of 200 empty homes in the high rises will be reinstated to provide homes for families fleeing war.

North Lanarkshire Council chiefs stressed the properties would be brought back 'to a high standard' before refugees move in. Both tower blocks were set to be demolished but the U-turn in turning them into homes aims to get those staying in hotels, into somewhere they can call home.
