Washing up, disposing of wrapping paper and taking on the cooking are the least favourite chores on Christmas Day. Emptying bins and wiping down surfaces were other thankless tasks people would prefer to avoid.
Research of 2,000 adults, commissioned by LG Electronics, found that to avoid having to do any washing up, one in six have pretended to be asleep in front of the telly, and 15% conveniently time a walk. It was also revealed that 48% of those taking on the chores wished they had more time to spend with their loved ones on Christmas Day, with 41% saying they don’t tend to finish clean-up operations until 8pm.
Millions of brits will spend more than three hours in the kitchen on the big day, meaning a quarter miss out on the key moments due to the cooking and washing up duties.
The top moments missed included the delivery of big family news such as a pregnancy announcement (25%), the joy on a loved one’s face after opening a gift under the tree (31%), and the Royal Christmas broadcast (30%).
36% were left wishing they got more help on Christmas Day, according to the research, with nearly a quarter of Brits (23%) confessing that Christmas Day is like a full shift in a restaurant, compared to regular dinner time. But while 41 per cent of guests admitted they feel bad for hosts that are left out of the action – they still don’t offer to help.
The research was commissioned by LG Electronics to mark the launch of its new QuadWash dishwasher range.
David Palmer, Senior Product Specialist of Home Appliances at LG Electronics, said: “Our research has shown that cooking and cleaning responsibilities can be challenging during the festive period. We are committed to ongoing smart innovations that support people to live an easier and more enjoyable life. "
