During his tenure with the Golden State Warriors, JaVale McGee won two NBA championships. Throughout his tenure in San Francisco, the veteran big man played alongside Golden State’s championship core and witnessed them produce some historic performances. Yet, the night when Klay Thompson dropped 60 points with 11 dribbles appears to have stuck with McGee.
During a recent appearance on Tidal League’s ‘Run Your Race,’ the former Warriors big man recalled Thompson’s performance, noting how it ‘was crazy.’ McGee also noted how the Warriors sharpshooter ‘doesn’t need to dribble with his shots,’ which is a testament to Thompson’s ability as an off-ball scorer for Golden State.
“Klay’s shots are different than everyone else’s shots. Klay doesn’t need to dribble with his shots. He had 60 with 11 Dribbles. I was there. That s*** was crazy.”
Was this the best shooting performance of all-time?

The game McGee is referencing is from the 2016-17 season, when Thompson scored 60 points against the Indiana Pacers. Recently, former All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas also referenced Thompson’s performance during that contest, as he labeled the Warriors champion as the league’s best ‘hot’ shooter.
Thompon missed the entirety of the 2019-20 season and the 2020-21 season due to back-to-back injuries. However, the five-time All-Star has bounced back and is now scoring the rock at an elite efficiency, both from the field and above the perimeter.
It’s clear that Thompson is highly regarded by his NBA peers. Yet, it’s also unlikely that the veteran scorer will take it easy on anyone when the new season gets underway. After all, the Warriors are known for being intense competitors, and given their recent off-season activity, they will have some significant expectations on their shoulders.
