Nottinghamshire fire crews were called to the scene of a major incident at a pyrotechnics firm in which two people were taken hospital. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service say they were called at 9.12pm on Friday (January 20) and in total nine crews were sent to the scene at PW Defence at Wilne Mill, in Draycott's Wilne Road.
It has now been confirmed that two patients were taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre. The air ambulance was also called to the scene following reports of a fire in a building.
A spokeswoman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 21.05 hours on 20 January to Draycott in Derbyshire. The caller reported a fire in a building. We sent our Hazardous Area Response Team, four ambulances, two fast response cars and the air ambulance. Two patients were taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham, by ambulance."

When a Derbyshire Live reporter arrived at the scene today (Saturday, January 21) there was a police van and a police car parked within the complex but firefighters could not be seen. It has been confirmed that a joint fire and police investigation is underway, Derbyshire Live reports.
There did not appear to be any obvious external damage to the building. A member of staff said: "No comment. We recommended you follow up on Monday when we can say more."
The building is known locally as the "fireworks factory". While today the firm supplies the MoD with pyrotechnics, some Derbyshire Live readers say they recall working at the site in past decades, and at the time it donated fireworks for displays in Shardlow.
In 2023 there are no UK manufacturers of fireworks, with most being produced in China. The Ministry of Defence has been approached for comment.
