2 more deaths this monsoon take toll to 118 in Maharashtra

MUMBAI: Two persons were killed in Washim and Yavatmal districts due to flood and lightning — taking the death toll since the start of monsoon to 118 — and 82 persons suffered injuries, according to the State Disaster Situation Report Index.

The animal death toll now stands at 231. Till date, the state in 28 districts has received an average of 687mm rainfall. The average rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours in the state except Mumbai is 13mm.

Mumbai city recorded 3.4mm and Mumbai suburbs 16mm in the last 24 hours. In all, 316 villages across the state have been affected by heavy rains and 14,480 persons have been evacuated to 83 relief centres.

Twelve teams of National Disaster Rescue Force and two teams of State Disaster Rescue Force continue to be deployed across Maharashtra, including Mumbai.
