2 men charged with attempted murder in Josh Reynolds case

Two men have been charged with attempted murder and other chargers after Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds was shot on Oct. 18.

Luis Mendoza, 35, faces 23 charges, according to KUSA-TV’s Kevin Vaughan and Janet Oravetz: six counts of attempted first-degree murder; six counts of first-degree assault; three counts of illegal discharge of a firearm; three counts of drug possession; four counts of weapons possession by a previous offender; and one count of possession of a large capacity magazine.

Burr Charlesworth, 42, faces 15 charges: six counts of attempted first-degree murder; six counts of first-degree assault; and three counts of illegal discharge of a firearm.

Mendoza has a $300,000 cash-only bail and remains in the Denver County Jail. Charlesworth posted a $100,000 bail and was released.

Reynolds and two others left a Glendale strip club on Oct. 18 and were followed by multiple vehicles. Reynolds was then shot in his arm and the back of his head. One of the men with him was shot in the back and the other man was wounded by flying glass.

From the Vaughan and Oravetz story:

Following his arrest, Charlesworth told investigators he was “helping” a friend who had asked him to follow the victims due to a prior conflict. He denied he ever shot at the victims and said the gunfire came from the other vehicles. He refused to describe those vehicles, according to the court documents.

The Broncos said in a statement that Reynolds suffered minor injuries. Reynolds, 29, was back at practice last week and he was on the sideline for the team’s game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Reynolds is currently on injured reserve with a finger injury. He will be eligible to return from IR next week.
