Fatal shootings of couple found in South Loop home ruled murder-suicide

(Sun-Times file)

Authorities have ruled that the fatal shootings of a woman and a man in their South Loop apartment was a murder-suicide.

Leticia Zaragoza, 45, and Joseph P. Fry, 36, were discovered in their home in the 2000 block of South Indiana Avenue around 3 p.m. Monday, according to Chicago police.

Both had been shot in the head, police said. The shooting happened sometime after 2 p.m. on Sunday and before 3 p.m on Monday, according to police.

Zaragoza’s death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Fry’s death was ruled a suicide.

Zaragoza’s brother, Tony Garcia, told reporters he went to the apartment after getting a call from their father.

“She never bothered anybody,” Garcia told reporters outside the apartment building. “She was loved by everybody. She was a beautiful person.”
