DENVER — With more than 20,000 votes left to be counted in Denver’s 2023 municipal election, two candidates — Mike Johnston and Kelly Brough — remain positioned to meet in a runoff contest for mayor.
A third candidate, Lisa Calderón, has gained on the second-place Brough but is still nearly 5,000 votes shy of what it will take to make it to the next round in the city’s first open mayoral election in 12 years.
In the latest results update released at 5 p.m., Johnston was leading all candidates with 36,622 votes, about 24.5% of ballots tabulated so far. Brough maintained her second-place standing with 30,850 votes, or 20.6%.
