Ancient swords are uncovered from time to time across Europe, but only a few discoveries immediately raise questions about how they came to rest where they were found. A recently unearthed bronze sword in northern Poland is one of those rare cases. Dating back around 2,700 years, the weapon was discovered standing upright in the ground, an unusual position that has led archaeologists to consider whether it was deliberately placed as part of a ritual rather than accidentally lost.
