A new garden and street trees will spring up thanks to grants totalling £1.3m that have been awarded to fund projects which will improve drainage across Greater Manchester. The money has been provided by United Utilities, the North West's water company.
Sustainable Drainage Systems create environmental benefits and improve the functioning of sewers by reducing the amount of rainwater entering them and so relieving pressure on the system. They help to reduce the need for releases from storm overflows during times of heavy rainfall.
The four successful projects have been awarded £1.371m through the company’s Green Recovery programme, a plan "to work in partnership with organisations across the North West to deliver environmental improvements in rivers, protect habitats, combat invasive species, enhance water quality, improve drainage and reduce pollution."
