Each year I make the same mistake.
I dither and delay over my which pair of sandals should be my annual investment piece; the pair to elevate all my summer dresses and jeans-and-a-t-shirt combos. A pair that’s everyday appropriate but happy-making enough for my hols.
I flip and flop so dedicatedly and for so long that quite often it’s halfway through summer before I finally commit to a vision for my toes, by which point the object of my attraction has often sold out in my size. Do not make my mistake. Now is the perfect time to invest, and when it comes to the trends to know this summer: it’s a game of two shoes.
On the one hand the chunky, buckle-heavy wear-anywhere workhorse continues its ascendancy for summer 23, but for those searching for something sleeker, the daintier skinny strap sandal is having a major moment — from ankle tied metallics at Ancient Greek to mega minimal T-bar styles from The Row. Whichever you choose (or perhaps you need one of each? I’m sure I do), look for raffia accents, shades of silver and interesting olive greens and browns as a chic alternative to black. Now all you need is that pedicure…
