SAMUT PRAKAN: A total of 163 kilogrammes of compressed marijuana were found in garbage bags on the roadside in Bang Phli district on Sunday and Monday.

Pol Col Mongkol Onkaew, the Bang Kaew police chief, said that on Sunday highway police were informed by local residents that they found 14 garbage bags left by Thepparat road under the bridge across Bang Khwang canal in tambon Bang Chalong.

Police went to the spot and confiscated the bags and the 143 slabs of dried marijuana they contained, each about 1kg.

On Monday, another two bags were found in front of a noodle shop at the mouth of Soi King Kaew 37 in tambon Rachathewa. The bags contained 20 slabs of dried marijuana, weighing 1kg each.

Pol Col Mongkol said the bags at each location were believed to have been intentionally left on the roadside by the same person.

Police were examining recordings of security cameras in the areas. The marijuana had been sent to forensic police to collect the DNA and fingerprints.
