During a recent statement, Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen urged his fellow caucus members to unite behind Joe Biden, emphasizing the importance of supporting the Democratic nominee to prevent aiding Donald Trump's reelection. Cohen expressed concern that internal discord within the party could ultimately benefit Trump's campaign.
Addressing Biden's recent gaffe where he mistakenly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as 'Vice President Trump,' Cohen downplayed the incident by stating his preference for Trump as vice president over his previous role as president.
Furthermore, Cohen dismissed calls from fellow Democrat Rep. Jim Himes for Biden to step down, attributing Himes' stance to the demographics of his Connecticut constituency, which he described as predominantly white, liberal, and elitist.
Himes became the first House Democrat to publicly call for Biden's resignation following a news conference. To date, a total of 16 Democratic members of Congress, including Senator Peter Welch of Vermont, have joined the chorus urging Biden to step aside.
