During large protests in Tel Aviv, the Israel Police arrested 16 individuals who were calling for the release of hostages held in Gaza and the removal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The arrests were made due to disruption of traffic and road blockages, as stated by the police in a release on Saturday.
The police reported that the protestors caused public disorder by igniting fires, toppling police barriers, obstructing roads, and scuffling with law enforcement. In response, 16 disorderly individuals were arrested, and 9 citations of 1000 shekels ($270) were issued for disruption of traffic and road blockages.
Video footage captured police using a water cannon to disperse protesters on the Ayalon Highway in Tel Aviv. At least one person was seen being arrested and taken into a police vehicle. The footage also showed protesters standing in front of the water cannon, chanting, 'We will not give up until things get better.'
In a separate statement released on Saturday, the Israel Police urged protesters in Tel Aviv to abide by the law and refrain from engaging in violent protests. The police emphasized the importance of peaceful demonstrations and compliance with regulations to maintain public safety and order.
