CHENNAI: At least 11.3% of tobacco users in Delhi and Chennai said they had quit using tobacco after the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, according to a cross-sectional study done by a group of scientists.
For the study, scientists from the two cities in association with scientists in the UK and the US surveyed nearly 800 adult tobacco users (smoking and smokeless tobacco) for over two months from July to August 2020. Of the 357 participants in Chennai 55 people (15.4%) said they had quit smoking compared to 35 (7.9%) of the 440 people from Delhi. Overall, at least one in every ten persons surveyed said they had quit tobacco.
