14,000 West Lothian young people apply for free bus scheme as parents report application struggles

Around 14,000 young people in West Lothian have taken up the Scottish Government’s national free bus service scheme since its January launch as parents hit out at problems in the application process.

The scheme was started at the end of January this year. It allows Scots under the age of 22 to claim a free bus pass with their Young Scot card.

Applying for the Young Scot travel card has been far from straightforward, however. Teenagers and parents are often describing a frustrating foray into frozen internet pages and dropped links on the government website.
