Ocado has opened its first rapid grocery delivery service outside London in Leeds creating over 130 jobs for the city.
Zoom by Ocado has built a new purpose built warehouse, which is home to 70 robots that help pick and pack grocery orders, in Hunslet.
A spokesperson for Ocado stated that the robots, which communicate using 4G technology, operate on a grid, using an ‘air traffic control style’ operating system.

The warehouse will also have 10,000 products from Ocado and its partners Marks & Spencer, delivered to Leeds postcodes, within the hour or later the same day, from November 24.
The deliveries will be made using a range of electric vehicles, including e-trikes and e-mopeds. It is thought Zoom by Ocado has created 130 new jobs in the city.

Zoom by Ocado’s new warehouse in Hunslet joins an existing warehouse in Batley, which acts as a base for Ocado’s main delivery service, Ocado.com.
