The Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to win their third-consecutive Super Bowl next season and need to bulk up their roster in the coming months to field a team capable of achieving such a difficult task.
While free agency is sure to provide Kansas City with some options later in March, the 2024 NFL Draft in April will be the best opportunity for the Chiefs to find talented players who can help them for years to come.
The NFL Scouting Combine last week gave the team’s scouts plenty to think about as they build Kansas City’s draft board. Several standout players separated themselves from the competition with their standout performances in Indianapolis, Indiana. They may be among the prospects that the Chiefs have their eyes on heading into the most crucial part of the offseason.
Check out which players Kansas City might be interested in after testing particularly well at the combine:
Texas WR Xavier Worthy
Worthy’s record-setting 4.21 second 40-yard dash time put him on the radar of every team in the league, and the prospect of drafting him to pair with Patrick Mahomes should make Chiefs fans salivate.
Notre Dame OL Joe Alt
The son of Chiefs legend John Alt, Notre Dame lineman Joe Alt put together a fantastic performance in Indianapolis and would be a worthy trade-up candidate for Kansas City if Brett Veach wants to bolster his team’s offensive line.
N.C. State LB Payton Wilson
Wilson has rare speed for a linebacker, as evidenced by his 4.43 40-yard dash time. If Kansas City can’t come to terms with Drue Tranquill or Willie Gay Jr. before free agency opens later this month, Wilson could be a player that the Chiefs keep their eyes on.
Penn State DL Chop Robinson
Robinson’s athleticism was on full display at the combine, and his well-rounded performance may entice the Chiefs if Brett Veach wants another elite edge rushing prospect to pair with George Karlaftis and Felix Anudike-Uzomah.
Washington OL Troy Fautanu
Fautanu graded out as NFL.com’s third-most athletic offensive tackle prospect after a stellar showing at the combine and could be available when Kansas City is on the clock with the No. 32 selection.
Texas DL T'Vondre Sweat
Sweat looked freakishly athletic for his gigantic size and could be a worthy replacement for Chris Jones if the Chiefs aren’t able to reach an agreement on an extension with their star defensive tackle.
Toledo DB Quinyon Mitchell
Mitchell may be out of reach for Kansas City in the first round, but if Brett Veach decides to trade L’Jarius Sneed in the coming weeks, this Toledo defensive back could be the Chiefs’ next great cornerback prospect.
Penn State TE Theo Johnson
Johnson was among the best testers in Indianapolis last week and drew comparisons to Jimmy Graham after showing scouts what he is capable of.
Louisville RB Isaac Guerendo
Few players did more to raise their draft stock than Guerendo, who put together an eye-opening performance at Lucas Oil Stadium with an outstanding 4.33-second mark in the 40-yard dash.
Georgia OL Amarius Mims
Mims has impressive athleticism for his size and is a blue-chip tackle prospect. Kansas City would benefit from his presence on the offensive line, but would likely have to trade up to secure his services.
Florida State DL Braden Fiske
Fiske was a fringe first-round pick before his phenomenal performance at the combine and may warrant a selection with the Chiefs’ No. 32 pick in the first round if Chris Jones isn’t signed to an extension.
Georgia WR Ladd McConkey
McConkey ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash and would be a fantastic pick by the Chiefs at No. 32 if Kansas City wants a rock-solid receiving prospect to pair with Rashee Rice.
Texas WR Adonai Mitchell
Mitchell tested well at the combine and could immediately make a difference in Kansas City’s offense with Patrick Mahomes throwing him the ball.
