13 more Nottinghamshire schools close due to extreme heat

13 more schools in Nottinghamshire have shut to students and staff on Tuesday (July 19) because of how hot the weather is. Schools in the Diverse Academies Trust have closed their doors for one day only after the Met Office issued a red weather warning of extreme heat, with temperatures forecast in excess of 40 degrees Celsius.

This comes after eight schools in Nottinghamshire, part of a total of 10 schools that are part of the Archway Learning Trust, closed on both Monday (July 18) and Tuesday, despite government advice not stating that schools should shut. Monday was the hottest day in Nottinghamshire since records began, and Tuesday is set to be even hotter.

The Diverse Academies Trust has followed suit on Tuesday with their schools, with 13 in Nottinghamshire making up a total of 15. The Nottinghamshire schools are based in the Hucknall, Mansfield, Tuxford and Retford areas.
