The best electric toothbrush is the quickest and easiest way to get that dentish-fresh feeling from your own home. Especially when accompanied by other gadgets like the best water flossers and the best teeth whitening kits. But it’s a saturated market, how do you know what to choose? The likes of Oral-B and Philips offer a seemingly endless range of brushes that include high-tech features, from AI coaching to wifi-enabled smart chargers, often with eyewatering price tags.
To find out more about electric toothbrushes (the features that are worth it and the ones that aren’t), I enlisted the help of expert Dr Praveen Sharma, a specialist in restorative dentistry and scientific advisor to the British Dental Association. His advice when picking a new toothbrush? Forget the frills and focus on the fundamentals. “Look for a rechargeable brush with a built-in timer, a small head, and medium-stiffness bristles. Any other features are nice to have but not essential,” he explains.
