12-goal Celtic forward linked with transfer exit to European outfit

Celtic forward Oh Hyeon-gyu has been linked with a move to Belgian Pro League side Genk.

Having spent much of the final stretch of the 2023/24 Scottish Premiership campaign out of Brendan Rodgers' matchday squad, the Daily Record reports that the South Korean forward could now be on the cusp of a move to the continent.

Oh scored five times last season, with his last goals being coming in December's 4-1 win over Hibs, when the 23-year-old struck twice in the 63 minutes he spent on the pitch.

Having signed for Celtic in the summer of 2022 under previous manager Ange Postecolgou, Oh featured more during the 2022/23 campaign, finding the net seven times in all competitions during this time - bringing his Celtic total so far to 12.

With Kyogo Furuhashi leading the line for Celtic more often than not over the last few years, Norwich City loanee Adam Idah appeared to move ahead of Oh in the pecking order – with the former netting Celtic's Scottish Cup-winning goal against Rangers on May 25, before returning to his parent club.

Assuming Genk are interested in bringing Oh to Belgium, whether that deal would be on a permanent basis or a loan deal remains to be seen.

Last month, The Celtic Way stats man Alan Morrison compared Oh and Idah in a variety of different ways. You can check that article out in full by following the link above, but here's the intro as a teaser:

"As the season is drawing to a conclusion and the number of available minutes remaining diminishes, so such reckless abandon is necessary. Specifically, with media chatter about the likely cost of recruiting striker Adam Idah on a full-time basis speculated upon, it is unlikely he will have completed the requisite 900 minutes by the season's end.

"As such, I want to run the comparison exercise against the Irish striker. But the subject of that comparison will be Oh Hyun-Gyu (remember him?), whom Idah has effectively replaced as a substitute for starting striker Kyogo Furuhashi."
