12 countries that have eased Covid travel restrictions including Spain, Italy and Greece

Travelling abroad has become much easier for Scots as coronavirus restrictions continue to lift across the globe.

Hotspots such as Italy, Spain and Greece have all announced changes that will make the journey over the little bit more hassle free.

It comes just months after the Scottish Government announced an end to testing requirements for fully vaccinated passengers heading back into the country.

The move was described by officials as a boost to the travel industry, which has struggled during the worst of the Covid the pandemic.

And as we edge closer to the summer months, more and more Scots are on the hunt for a cheeky bit of sunshine.

Our partner title, the Mirror, has listed 12 countries that have recent eased their Covid restrictions for Scots travellers.

It comes after Ryanair announced details of new flights Spain, Portugal and more with fares from £19.99.

1. Iceland

All Covid travel restrictions were removed in Iceland from February 25, according to the Foreign Office.

Scots are not required to provide proof of vaccination, do any tests or fill in any passengers locator forms under the current rules.

The Icelandic government announced the lifting of restrictions last Wednesday.

In a statement, it said: “Widespread societal resistance to Covid-19 is the main route out of the epidemic.

“To achieve this, as many people as possible need to be infected with the virus as the vaccines are not enough, even though they provide good protection against serious illness.”

2. Italy

As of yesterday, all travellers aged six and over must show either a proof of vaccination, evidence of a negative PCR or lateral flow test before entry or a certificate showing that they have recovered from Covid in the last six months.

Failure to provide any of these mean that you must spend five days in isolation at your chosen location. Travellers must take another PCR or lateral flow test at the end of the period of isolation.

All passengers must fill in a passenger locator form.

3. Canada

The Canadian government announced a relaxation of Covid travel restrictions to come into effect from February 28.

Fully vaccinated passengers are able to take a lateral flow test the day before travel, instead of doing a PCR.

Arrivals may be chosen to take a test on arrival in the country, but they will not have to quarantine while waiting on the result.

Unvaccinated passengers must quarantine for 14 days, and must take a test on arrival in the country and also on day eight of their self-isolation period.

4. Spain

Unvaccinated travellers are now able to enter Spain, providing that they can provide proof that they have recovered from Covid within the past six months.

Fully vaccinated passengers must show evidence that they have received both doses at least 14 days prior to their arrival in Spain.

Children under the age 12 are not required to show evidence of their vaccination or Covid recovery for entry. Testing is also not needed for this age group.

Scots tourists must fill in a health control form before travelling over to Spain.

5. UAE

From February 26, fully vaccinated people traveling to the UAE are not required to take a PCR test before they travel.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travellers can enter the UAE if they test negative on a PCR test or have proof of recovery from Covid in the past month.

Passengers under 16 and people with severe disabilities are exempt from the vaccine rules.

6. Cyprus

Fully vaccinated travellers are exempt pre-departure testing rules in Cyprus.

However, all travellers aged 12 and over must take a PCR test at the airport, which costs between €15 and €19.

You must self-isolate in your accommodation under you receive the result for the test.

The Foreign Office has said that results should be available with three hours.

7. Tunisia

Fully vaccinated Scots are allowed to enter Tunisia without the need to take a Covid test.

Unvaccinated travellers can avoid quarantine if they present evidence of a negative PCR or lateral flow test.

Failure to do these means that passengers must spend five days in self-isolation for five days.

8. Greece

Greece recently changed the rules to exempt fully vaccinated Scots from Covid test requirements.

Anyone over the age of 12 will need to fill out a pre-departure passengers locator form.

If you're unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, you will need proof of a negative Covid test result - this can be a PCR test taken within 72 hours before arrival, or an antigen test within 48 hours.

9. Portugal

Portugal recently changed its rules for vaccinated travellers so they can visit without needing Covid tests. (If your vaccination course was completed over nine months ago, you'll need a booster jab to qualify as fully vaccinated).

Anyone aged 12 or over who is unvaccinated will still need a negative test result to visit; this can be a PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure, or a lateral flow taken within 24 hours.

All travellers also need to complete a pre-departure passenger locator form online.

10. France

Fully vaccinated Scots can visit for non-essential reasons such as holidays without needing to quarantine or take a pre-travel Covid test. (There are new booster jab requirements if you were vaccinated over 270 days ago).

11. Sri Lanka

Travellers who are fully vaccinated against Covid, or have proof of recovery, will no longer be required to take a pre-travel PCR or antigen test if they want to visit Sri Lanka and see some of the country's most amazing places . The new rules came into force this month .

Unvaccinated children aged 11 years and under are allowed to travel with fully vaccinated parents. If a child under the age of 18 has received one dose of a vaccine at least 14 days before travel, they will be considered 'fully vaccinated'.

12. India

Double jabbed Scots no longer need a PCR test if they want to visit India, and will be exempt from a seven-day quarantine and day eight Covid test.

Travellers will still need to fill out a pre-travel declaration form, show proof of full vaccination of one of the approved jabs, and then undergo "14-day self-monitoring".

UK arrivals who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated will need to show proof of a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours before arrival, and will also need to stick to the 14-day self-monitoring, rather than quarantine.
