11 most wanted 'cool' postcodes in the UK to relocate to in 2023 - see full list

A picturesque market town has been included on a list of the best places to relocate to in the UK for 2023.

Monmouth in Wales was featured in an annual selection of the country's "coolest" postcodes published by The Times, who chose locations up and down the country for their independent shops, pubs, eateries and scenery.

Home to many listed buildings, it is surrounded by some of the county's most spectacular scenery and is nestled between Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and Brecon Beacons National Park to the west.

The town boasts a long and proud history, having been established in Roman times with a settlement and small garrison called Blestium found at the site.

Sights to see in the area include the ruins of the castle and the famous Monnow Bridge - the only remaining medieval fortified river bridge in Great Britain, according to Wales Live.

Packed with shops, pubs and cafes, the centre of the town is meanwhile dominated by the 18th century Grade I Shire Hall, which includes a statue of King Henry V with its striking stone facade.

The king was born in at Monmouth castle in either 1386 or 1387, depending on which historian you ask.

The newspaper even believes Monmouth's charms will be enough to end the "hipster love affair with Hackney" - and house prices in the area certainly suggest it is in demand.

According to property portal Rightmove using Land Registry data, properties in Monmouth had an overall average price of £353,536 over the last year, well above the Wales' national average of £245,893 according to the Principality Building Society.

Also making the list of "coolest postcodes'" is the tiny settlement of Potto in Yorkshire, which is home to just 324 people and has no shop or main pathway.

Situated on the edge of the North York Moors, the village is said to offer the perfect break for city-dwellers and is also home to local favourite restaurant Tomahawk Steakhouse, which offers Himalayan-salt dry-aged steaks in a rustic setting.

Postcodes for those preferring the faster pace of urban life include G1 covering Glasgow City Centre and S38, which covers the trendy post-industrial area of Kelham Island in Sheffield.

The Times' full list of the eleven "coolest postcodes to move to for 2023 is:

1. Monmouth, Wales

2. North Berwick, East Lothian

3. Londonderry, Northern Ireland

4. Kelham Island, Sheffield
