A fire that broke out in Los Angeles County has led to the evacuation of hundreds of people from a state park and has already burned 11,000 acres, authorities reported on Sunday. The Post Fire ignited on Saturday afternoon in Gorman, an unincorporated community in northwestern Los Angeles County. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Cal Fire.
California State Park Services took action to evacuate 1,200 individuals from Hungry Valley Park, as confirmed by Cal Fire. As of Saturday evening, the fire, which remains at zero percent containment, had caused damage to two commercial properties, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Evacuation orders are currently in effect for areas located west of Interstate 5 between Pyramid Lake and Gorman, with evacuation warnings issued for areas south of Pyramid Lake between Old Ridge Route and the Los Angeles County line.
Efforts are underway to contain the fire, with crews on the ground working diligently. Aircraft have been deployed to halt the fire's forward progress, although limited visibility poses a challenge, as noted by the fire department. Additionally, Pyramid Lake has been closed due to the fire threat.
The affected region is anticipated to face slightly higher temperatures and lower humidity throughout the weekend. Winds are forecasted to pick up during the evening, with gusts expected to reach up to 30 mph, and even stronger winds projected at the ridge tops, exceeding 50 mph.
