JAIPUR: The transport department, which has been rattled following a spate of fatal accidents, has been directed to take some tough measures to prevent such incidents by strict enforcement of traffic rules.
According to the transport department, 10,043 people died in 20,951 road accidents in the state in 2021. About 82 per cent of these accidents were due to speeding, 5 per cent because of driving in the wrong direction and 13 per cent of deaths were due to other reasons including drug and mobile phone use during driving.
