MUMBAI: Covid cases in Maharashtra jumped by 104% on Tuesday, with 3,098 testing positive. Deaths, too, doubled in a 24-hour period with six fatalities compared to Monday's three.
In Mumbai, the daily case count jumped by 52%. One death was registered. A state official said Monday's tally is usually the lowest in the week due to fewer tests at the weekend. Tuesday's tally is in line with the caseload on other days, said the official.
In Mumbai, the daily test positivity rose to 8% after dropping below 5% the previous day. There were 40 hospitalisations, taking the total number in hospitals to 425. For the first time during this surge, the caseload in the MMR (1,313) accounted for roughly a third of the state tally (3,098) as against over half the tally before now. Pune region had 1,196 cases and saw three deaths. Nashik and Nagpur had 167 and 160 cases, respectively.
