103 Nobel winners demand the release of Nobel Peace laureate Ales Bialiatski

One hundred and three Nobel winners including Nobel Literature laureates Annie Ernaux, Kazuo Ishiguro, JM Coetzee and Olga Tokarczuk have signed an open letter by Pen International and expressed their solidarity with Nobel Peace Prize 2022 winner Ales Bialiatski, who has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Belarus court. In the letter, the Nobel laureates have also demand Bialiatski's release from the prison.

Bialiatski founded Viasna (Spring), an organisation that provides support to demonstrators who were jailed after protesting against dictatorial powers granted to Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko following a constitutional amendment in 1996, The Guardian reported.
