Ever found yourself daydreaming of one day having your own private island somewhere warm and tropical?
Well, if you have some spare cash lying around and you’re unbothered by the energy crisis, inflation and recession, why not consider buying 100 tropical islands at once?
An entire archipelago in Indonesia’s beloved Bali is currently looking for its next owner.
Called the Widi Reserve, it is an ecological haven with 780,000 acres of land and sea, more than 100 islands, 25,000 acres of rainforest and countless endangered species including white sharks and blue whales.
It is home to 600 documented species of marine mammals, fish, birds, insects and lizards and has one of the world’s best-preserved coral reef ecosystems.
The uninhabited islands are straight out of a luxurious travel magazine, with pristine, white sand beaches.
The archipelago is being sold by New York’s Sotheby’s, which has secured the necessary permissions allowing the next owner to develop the area in an “eco-conscious” way. This would let them build at least 50 properties on the reserve.
Explaining the vision for the development and the permissions involved in the sale, Sotheby’s website says: “Leadership Islands Indonesia (LII) has spent several years carefully master-planning, designing and licensing one of the most environmentally sensitive, low-density luxury resort and residency developments in the world. The opportunity to conserve and sustainably develop the Widi Reserve by acquiring interests in LII presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity.”
To clarify the legal side of things, the new owner won’t necessarily own the islands themselves. However, they will own the development rights, meaning no one can build anything on the archipelago without their say-so.
If this is just what you had been looking for, then you will have to get ready to say “goodbye” to a whole lot of cash.
The exact price range hasn’t been announced just yet but you have to put down a $100,000 (£83,944) deposit just to be allowed to bid on the archipelago.
The reserve will be up for auction from December 8 to December 14.
